Photos from mom's final backpack trip

Here are some pictures from mom's backpack trip last week. She loved hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail. She was working on completing the entire trail in sections. It goes from the Mexican to the Canadian border. She had completed all of the Washington and Oregon sections. She had also finished quite a bit in California. Her plan last week was to complete another 60+ mile section in the Lake Tahoe area. Dad spent the first part of the week hiking with her and friends. She then planned to finish the last 2 days with her beloved hiking friends.

Dear Dr. Hall,
My friend and my brother. Audre and I have just heard about Sister Hall and of course we are saddened. My thoughts go back to this past campmeeting (08)when we had dinner together and Phyllis took us for an exciting walk by the river. Remember I had on boots and my feet were so sore afterwards. But the company was great. I think of our time together often. Our prayers are with you and the family. If there is anything we can do don't hesitate to contact us

Keep looking up

My dear friends...I'm just totally heart broken. Phyllis meant the world to me and so many others.
She was such a blessing to anyone and everyone who knew her...she even was a blessing to many who'd never met her because she was such a loving and giving soul.
I don't understand why this has happened.
I'm sure you are beyond devastated.
In the 30+ years I've known her, she never ever said a single negative word! Just wasn't part of her nature.
I'm sure her last spoken words were to Her Lord and Savior...and her last thoughts were of Him AND her family she loved so much.
Yes we weep, but we weep with the hope in seeing her again, soon.
When we see her again, no doubt she will be putting together the longest hike ever!
She loved to have fun and always included others to join in.
I am going to miss my little friend! is what I called her as she was a foot shorter than me.
May the Lord hold you close to Him at this very dark hour.
With a heavy heart i wish you the Lords peace.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to see these last photos - especially the bottom one. Phyllis and Don shared such a loving, active life, it is so hard to imagine her not being with us anymore.

Thank you for sharing the photos of your mother doing the thing she cherished. She looked very happy. What a beautiful shot of your mom and dad smooching! Since my father's heart attack two years ago he has always said to me he wants to leave this world doing the thing that makes him happy, which is golfing. So wonderful to see your mother's last days were spent enjoying life, seeing beautiful sites, laughing with friends and doing the thing she loved to do. My family will pray for your family during this rough time. We send you our deepest condolences and hope you know our love and thoughts are with you. God be with you and yours, Sherri Froeber

Dear precious friends,

Words cannot express what we feel at this time but let us cling to the hope Phyllis shares with us, hope in the coming of the Lord. Thank you for sharing these stories and images of our wonderful and loving Phyllis. It was a blessing to speak with Phyllis just a short time ago at the LLU Alumni banquet. She so enthusiastically spoke about her next wilderness adventure on the PCT. But more importantly it warmed our hearts when she inquired about our boys’ walk with the Lord and spoke of her desire to see her grandchildren someday take a stand on the Lord’s side. We will miss Phyllis. Let us know if we can be of help.

We love you guys.

Dear and Beloved Brother Don,
Just got the news from Dr. DeWitt Williams to us here in Korea at Sahmyook University. We knew her from the Health Summit in Orlando, FL. We are so sorry for your loss. We know that you were one of God's special teams.

Through the mists and tears of sorrow, gleams the Cross now and tomorrow.
Comes the Hand to smooth our brow, Eternal promise comes just now, for none can truly share our broken heart,
but One Whose Family was torn apart
at Calvary
for you and me.

In the Blessed Love of Christ,
And in His Service,

Dave, Bev, Don and family,
While little can ease your pain, Florin and I pray that you feel God’s presence & His embrace at this time. I wish I had recorded the beautiful things Phyllis said about Don & her family at the ladies retreat in Lincoln City this past spring but I’m sure you know how much she loved you and how proud she was of you all. She was a true positive inspiration that weekend to all of us as she kindly shared her room with 3 of us, gave encouraging talks and did her often walks on the beach no matter how bad it rained on one of the mornings. God’s Blessings and comfort upon you all during this time of loss and as you remember her always.

Dear Friends,

I'm stunned by the news. And my heart is heavy for you and your family. Know that we are thinking of you all this week and sat for a long time this morning thinking about memories I had with Phyllis. I remember that she gave me my first bath when I was a baby. I also remember pictures of David and I, as babies, in the bathtub together! Our moms got a kick out of that! The silverware that we eat off of everyday was given by her to Chris and I when we got married. I could go on. I know that Phyllis and I didn't see eye-to-eye on a personal issue a few years back, but knowing her, she probably smiled it away and hoped for restoration! We look forward to the day that our King mounts his steed to ride back to earth and destroy Death!

Love,
Rebekah and Chris Garvin

Dear Dr Hall & family:

I first met Phyllis about 5 years ago at a Pacific Crest Trail work project just behind Timberline Lodge. I was so touched by her enthusiasm for the PCT.

Since that time I have visited with her at various Pacific Crest Trail Association events and will always remember her cheerful smile and engaging stories of her time on the PCT.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic news of a member of our trail community. Please know that Phyllis's enthusiasm and support of the PCT made a big difference for those of us whose lives she touched.

I am sorry that I won't be able to attend her memorial services. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
